Anti-Slip Mats

The Value of NFSI Endorsement for Anti-Slip Mats

When choosing anti-slip mats for industrial facilities, there is one industry-designation that supersedes all others in terms of its market recognition and trusted value. The NFSI endorsement of a product highlights the integrity of its material structure and of the brand’s production process. And within this latest post, our team at Kleen-Tex will further highlight the importance of the NFSI endorsement when selecting anti-slip mats for a facility.

What is the NFSI?

The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) was founded in 1997 and has since become the recognized industry leader in aiding the prevention of injury due to slips and falls in the workplace. Their prevention steps include educating companies on safety, training work teams to reach higher standards of performance and researching the latest technology to continually improve safety standards.

What Value does the NFSI Bring to the Industrial Sector?

Because the NFSI is a non-profit, unbiased organization, companies can recognize the integrity the organization brings to the sector. They have no financial links to the products they test and approve. Their testing work has raised industrial safety standards, and is a declaration by the manufacturer that their system has been through stringent performance tests before being placed on the market.

What is NFSI Certification?

NFSI certification means that the product has passed the testing process for dry TCOF or Dry Transitional Coefficient of Friction. The instrument used is the Brungraber Mark II. It measures dry TCOF.

Kleen-Tex rubber backed matting has been certified by the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) as providing a “high traction” backing. NFSI tested our mats using its NFSI 101-C Test Method for Measuring Dry Transitional Coefficient of Friction (TCOF) of Floor Mat Backing Materials and found each mat to have a TCOF of greater than 0.05. According to NFSI, mats having the high-traction backing offered by Kleen-Tex are less likely to move, which can decrease the risk of migration, buckling and curling, which, in turn, can lessen slips, trips, and falls.

How Does NFSI Create Standards?

The team behind the NFSI, which includes experts from throughout the industrial marketplace, work to create their testing standards and processes based on the latest data on slips and falls. We know that, in the United States, one out of every five falls causes a serious injury, such as a broken bone. NFSI guidelines help to mitigate these serious injuries and ensure that products are manufactured based on human biomechanics. This ensures that anti-slip mats approved by NFSI for use in industrial areas are designed based on proven data and on the best techniques for mitigating dangerous slips and falls.
